Fortune and Fate © L Dunn 2014
Verse
Those were some sharp dressed days, silk suits, Italian shoes
When the heavenly bodies lined up for you
You could pick and choose, it was so easy then
Lulled you into thinkin’ those days would never end
Taken for granted the luck you came to expect
What fortune gives one day, fate can take away the next
Verse
You followed your desires no matter where they led
Till the finally took you down to the water’s edge
You didn’t step back, no, you threw caution to the wind
And the high life you’d been livin’ reached out and pulled you in
As your luck went south, your sun sank in the west
What fortune gives one day, fate can take away the next
Bridge
You no longer call the tune
Sittin’ in the catbird seat
You see it from a different point of view
Now you’re leanin’ on the blues
Thankful the shifting ground is still beneath your feet
Verse
Takin’ it step by step, takin’ it in stride
One day to the next, takin’ it one day at a time
Though the road may be rocky and steep
Victory without the climb could never be as sweet
Now you treat each blessing with due respect
Even the simple things you’re handed
You don’t take for granted
Grateful for all you receive
There’s no guarantee
What fortune gives one day, fate can take away the next
